Correction for the Common test essay question

6. The internet has proven to be more a curse than a blessing. Do you agree?

An Internet is a modern invention that improves the way of communication between people. It connects all the people in the world together by an invisible net. In today’s society, most of families possess a computer which has a accessibility to the Internet. Internet has proven to be a blessing due to its large store of information with great accessibility and ease of communication. Yet it is also seen as a curse due to its ability in spreading of pornography and causing addiction to the online games.

The Internet has proven to be a blessing in terms of communication. Software such as MSN, e-mail and chat rooms allow people to communicate with their families, colleagues and other friends at any time they want. The Internet is a substitute of mobile phones, letters and other forms of communication which cost us much more when we making use of them. . This contributes a lot in improving the family bonding and friendship. People are able to keep in touch easily despite of their locations. Some people may argue that the internet does allow people to communicate in a easier and faster way, but it greatly reduces the face to face communication. However, if you have noticed, the Internet nowadays allows people to talk face to face. The existence of the audio- visual service makes this kind of communication possible.

Furthermore, the great accessibility of the Internet has also proven to be a blessing. It allows us to contact anybody that we want even though we are located in some isolated areas. This accessibility gives us the ability to spread news to the whole world only within several seconds. For example, when tsunami attacked Indonesia in 2005, thousands of people need water, food, medicine and other forms of aid urgently in terms to survive. Due to the accessibility of the Internet, the relevant department was able to spread the news of this disaster to the whole world and searched for help. Therefore, the people around the world were able to react in the shortest time and tried their best to help. The Internet has saved thousands of lives in this way. This really proves that the Internet is a great blessing to our human.

In addition, the internet also provides a source of entertainment for us in this competitive world. Due to the presence of the Internet, we are able to download music, videos, movies and even read newspapers, magazines. We can also travel to other countries that we want on the Internet. It allows us to enjoy the beautiful and breathtaking scenery of the nature and the amazement of the culture of other races and countries. Moreover, there are also many kinds of games provided by the Internet. Our life is very stressful in today’s competitive society, we need to relax and have fun whenever we have an opportunity. Hence, the Internet provides us many ways of relaxation for us to release out stress. According to the fact that there are huge amount of music, movies and video clips being downloaded from the Internet everyday.

However, some people may claim that the Internet cause addiction of people to the online games and pornography. However, this case does not happen always. It is only minority of people who become addicted to the online games. Compare to the good things that Internet has done to human, this negative impact is not a case. Most of the people are benefited by the Internet and Internet is a blessing to them.

Therefore, in my opinion, the Internet has proven to be a blessing than a curse. It allows us to find the information that we need without putting in much effort and it helps us to strengthen family bonds. Due to its presence, thousands of lives were saved and it also provides a way for us to relax and to release the stress. Hence, I strongly disagree that the Internet has proven to be more a cuse than a blessing.

Term2 week 7 GP essay

Mankind is a cancer upon the Earth, Do you agree?
Global warming imperils Himalayan glaciers, poor nations brake greenhouse gas rise, polluting school buses still on the road and honeybee die-off threatens food supply. All these titles appear in front of our eyes in an increasing frequency. People are enjoying their comfortable life with the precedence of the modern technology, but we are unconscious about the fatal effects that we have being bringing to our beloved earth. I strongly believe the mankind is a cancer upon the earth. This can be shown in the areas of pollution, deforestation, abusing of nature resources and the killing of the precious animals.

Mankinds pollute the earth in ways of the air, land and water. Using of the fridges and air conditionings increase the emission of the carbon dioxide and CFCs which destroy the ozone layer in the atmosphere and hence cause the global warming and the rise of the sea level. The illegal burning of wood in some countries also contributes to the air pollution in a severe way. We pollute land by producing astronomical numbers of non-degradable plastic goods and all of them end up being the landfills. The overwhelmed mining activities also destroy huge area of arable land as the land that are mined cannot be used forever. The chemicals that we use in the industries are also not disposed correctly and the lands they pollute are unusable. Human also pollute the water by using the chemical fertilizers on their crops. All these will be washed into river and the water will become poisonness and cannot be consumed by any living creatures. Therefore, the water resource is becoming scarcer nowadays. According to research, there are a loss of 6 million hectares of land and 24 billion tons of topsoil every year around the world. There are more than 14,000 people died daily due to water pollution.

Our mankinds also killing the earth like cancer by causing deforestation. We cut down trees to make furniture and produce papers. Due to the large population, more and more trees are being cutting down intensively. We do not care about the consequences that we might bring to our earth. Human are very selfish and we just care that we can live comfortably and happily. People also waste piles and piles of paper unconsciously in their daily life and this worsens the prolem of deforestation. Deserts are appearing in a higher speed nowadays and our lives are threatened. According to research, by 2025, two-thirds of arable land in Africa will disappear, along with one-third of Asia's and one-fifth of South America's.

Our earth is hurting due to our abuse of the non renewable natural resources. Greedy is one of the natures that belong to us. We want to be rich and want to live comfortably. Therefore, we need nature resources like coal to produce electricity so that we can see in the night and we can keep ourselves warm in the winter. However, we extract the natural resources ceaselessly and we are never satisfied. We take all the natural resources that we have for granted. We also extract resources as it can make us rich. Due to its preciousness, it is very profitable. People begin to mine in a very large scale and abandon the lands after they leave with great satisfaction. According to research, the non-renewable resources will be depleted in a very short time and we are not able to survive without them. We are killing our earth and even ourselves without realizing it.

We also act like the cancer to the earth in a way that we kill the organs in our earth which is the We act like cancer upon the earth as we are killing the organ of the earth one by one which are the other species that exist on this earth. Mankinds always consider ourselves as primate. We think we are superior to other animals. For the animals that are not so scarce, we eat their meat and rare them to sell for money such as chicken and pigs. For those which are distinct, we also kill them cruelly for their precious skin and their organs to eat, too. All parts on their body are valuable. Therefore, more and more species begin to disappear form our earth and we lost them forever. Our present course will lead to the extinction of half of all plant and animal species by 2100.

However, some of the people who know the importance in saving our environment are trying their best to preserve the earth. They organize people to plant trees and purify water. They form organizations that punish those who capture precious animals illegally. They really hope that the earth can be saved and more people can understand the importance of the earth to us. Unfortunately, this group of people who want to save our home is really a minority. Their strength is really insignificant. Our earth is still deteriorating in a fast rate.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that mankind is a cancer upon the earth, we are destroying the earth in destructive and fast way. The earth is taking her revenge now by making us suffer from tsunami, floods and other kinds of disasters. If we do not start to save our earth now, we are not going to survive in the future. We are killing ourselves indirectly.

Term 2 week 6 ( Technology)

To what extent do the newspapers and magazines that you read deal with what is trivial, rather than with what is important?

In my opinion, the things that are happening around the world which are able to cause significant impact on us are considered as the important. All the advertisements and other kinds of reports which talk about the things that are not related to us and will not have an impact on us are trivial. Newspapers and magazines are main mediums that people use to spread information to the public. They are considered as the most reliable source of information. Most of the people get the information they need from them and they believe in them. Therefore, newspapers and magazines should deal with the important events that are happening around the world and in deed, they are.

It is really necessary for the newspaper and magazines to deal with the important events that are happening in terms to keep people updated. It is very crucial for the people to know what is going on around them and react to it correctly. It will become a mess or chaos if people is totally isolated from the outside world. For example, if the newspaper and magazines have never reported on the 9.11 attack, most of the people would not be able to know the truth and rumours would be spreading around which are not reliable at all. As we all know, rumours can evolve in a very exaggerating manner and it is very powerful. Therefore, people would receive totally different information about the 9.11 attack and this would cause fears among the public and the situation would become a mess. Hence, it is very important for people to be updated and allow them to know what if going on around them.

Furthermore, the newspapers and magazines do deal with the important rather than trivial. The fact is that people around the whole world know about the major events that are happening such as the 9.11 attack or the earthquake that has happened in Indonesia immediately after the incident. They reacted to the disaster by sending humanitarian aids and helps to the affected areas. This proved that the newspapers and magazines are reporting the important things, not the trivial.

In addition, it is unlikely for newspaper and magazines to only report on the trivial as the government of every country need them to carry out propaganda. The government have to use propaganda to brainwash their people in terms to control the nation, to continue to hold on the their power. They do not want their people to have bad expression of them which hence will lead to protests and troubles. Therefore, the newspaper and magazines are considered as the best and the most useful medium for them to carry out propaganda. They are the ones who control the newspaper agency. Hence, it is not really possible for newspapers and magazines to deal with large amount of trivial information.

On the other hand, as we have noticed, there have been more varies kinds of advertisements begin to appear on the newspapers and magazines. This phenomenon proves that the newspapers and magazines start to deal with more trivial information rather than important. In terms to sell their products, companies are willing to spend large amount of money to advertise their products on the newspaper. The same advertisements appear on newspaper repeatedly from day to day. Therefore, all these trivial advertisements begin to cover up the newspaper and magazines. However, the important events still occupy the larger percentage of the newspaper.

In conclusion, I do not believe that to a large extent, the newspapers and magazines that we read deal with what is trivial rather than with what is important .The fact proves that they are reporting the important things so that the people were able to react to them immediately. Even though the trivial advertisements are taking up a larger part of the newspaper and magazines, the important information still occupy and larger percentage.

GP Essay Term 2 Week 5

“Consider the view that the mass media give us false heroes”

Mass media are newspapers, motion pictures, radio, television, and magazines, all of which have the technical capacity to deliver information to millions of people. It is very easy for it to portray a heroic image in people’s mind as most people believe what it says. It has tremendous influence on people’s thinking and their way of looking at things. The heroes are people who did something that contribute greatly to the country and the people live there. They are the ones who are believed as responsible, sacrificial, genius, caring and possess great ability which most of the people do not possess. The heroes can be political leaders, successful economists or humanitarian aid workers.

I strongly agree that the mass media always give people false heroes. As we all know, government is the most powerful organization in a country. It is in charge of most of the departments, industries, organizations, communities and companies. It is extremely important for them to portray a good image of themselves to their people in terms to make people follow and obey any of their decisions. Therefore, they make use the mass media to do propaganda.

Sometimes, the government tries to hide the truth from its people or make up something to tell them. For example, when some of the leading cadres make mistakes like corruption, the government will forbid the mass media to publicize the information and block it from spreading. In this case, the government is trying to hide the truth from its people by using its power. Oppositely, they may order the mess media companies to create information which do not exist at all and publicise them. All these information is to prise the government and portray the members involved as great heroes. In this case, the government is trying to concoct the truth and use these to propaganda the nation. This will help the government to maintain its good image in its people’s mind and hence the people will satisfied and they will not create problems for the government. Therefore, they are able to hold on to power for a longer time and enjoy the privileges.

Propaganda is a kind of publicity that is intended to spread ideas of information which will persuade and convince people. The government use propaganda to portray the president as a hero. They use all kinds of manners to convince and influence people that the president or some leading cadres are people who have great abilities and strength to rule the country, they are capable of being a leader and they are willing to devote everything they have to their people. They use their power to coerce the mass media to report according to their willing and intentions. Therefore, the government uses the mess media, which is a very powerful tool to convince its people to make themselves into heroes. However, they also use mass media to hide some of the real heroes who they do not want them to catch people’s attention due to many reasons. The government won’t give the power to them easily.

However, mass media do not always give us false heroes as there are cases that it tells the truth. Internet is one of them. As we all know, there is no censorship on the internet, people are free to post their commands online as much as they want. They can say whatever they want to say about the government and the ruler. People are free to go to the websites and read the commands. Therefore, they are able to express their unhappiness and the unsatisfaction about the government. This defames the heroic image of the government that people has in mind. However, there is still some kind of censorship on the internet as government can forbid people from going to certain websites which they do not want the people to see. Moreover, positive information about the good deed of the government is more available to the people through other sources of mass media which can be controlled by the government. Over long time, they will be influenced unconsciously.

In conclusion, mass media is the best and the most effective way that government use to build up its good reputation in terms to gain support from people. The government has the power to give order to the mass media. Therefore, mass media is not as reliable as people think. It is a tool that government uses to propaganda people. Since, it is unreliable, it does not always give us false heroes.

GP essay on family ( term 2 week 4)

" Women will never enjoy the same rights as men." Do you agree?

I strongly disagree with this statement. Females are always seen as the weaker group in the society. This gender stereotype has led to a very serious gender inequality. Women are not able to enjoy as many rights as men. However, it does not mean that women will never enjoy the same right as men. The world is changing in a very fast pace and everything will not remain the same.

In the past decades, women has shown their great ability in both areas of household and workplace. There are many females have done excellently. Firstly, females are the ones who stay at home and in charge of all the house works. They look after children and educate them. This is a gender stereotype since the past. This proves that women have great ability in coping with the house works. However, they can also be the one who go out of the home and be the bread winners for the family. The secretary of America Rice, the Member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee, vice premier of the China's State Council Wu Yi and business woman and founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics Mary Kay Ash and many more. There are thousands of them. Females have shown their great ability even at construction site. One of the best example is the "red scarf" in Singapore. They have shown that women are not weaker than men. Therefore, why cannot they enjoy as many rights as the men? They contribute as much. This will definitely affect the views of people towards the females and hence it is possible for women to enjoy same rights and men.

Furthermore, the living standard of people have risen in the past decades and females are able to receive proper education. Hence, they are able to enter the workforce and contribute to the society. More and more females put their career before their family. They begin to marry and have children later. Many of them have climbed to the higher position in their career. They have proved that they can do things as well as males. Hence, they have risen their status in people's mind which will help them to gain more rights.

In the modern society, the youth are not restricted by the traditions. They have very different mindset from the older generation. The gender stereotype does not root in their mind deeply. Therefore, it is even easier for women to rise their status and they are very likely to enjoy the same rights as men. Hence, it is incorrect to say that women will never enjoy the same rights as men.

Moreover, the females are enjoying more and more rights than before. It can be proved by many evidences. They are allowed to attend schools and receive education which they were not allowed before; they are also able to go out of the houses to work instead of staying home to look after the children; they are allowed to decide many things for themselves such as their married partner and whether to have a child; they are allowed to take part in the president elections in some countries and so on. The truth have proved that women are enjoying more and more rights than before and they are still gaining more rights. Therefore, it is possible for them to enjoy same rights or even more rights than the men in the future.

However, there is a possibility that women may not able to enjoy the same rights as men or may not enjoy them in a short time. The gender stereotype is sill rooted in people's mind deeply and it has been existing in the past thousands of years. It is really not possible for it to disappear totally. Even though the young generation are not restricted by the traditional thinking, they will be certainly affected by it in some extent. They are influenced unconsciously in their daily life by their parents and grandparents at home. Therefore, it is not easy for females to rise their status and enjoy same as men in a short time.

In conclusion, it is possible for women to enjoy the same rights as men but it need a long term process. The gender stereotype that rooted in people's mind cannot be ignored. Therefore, women need to work harder to show people their great abilities in terms to rise their status and enjoy more rights.
