GP essay on family ( term 2 week 4)

" Women will never enjoy the same rights as men." Do you agree?

I strongly disagree with this statement. Females are always seen as the weaker group in the society. This gender stereotype has led to a very serious gender inequality. Women are not able to enjoy as many rights as men. However, it does not mean that women will never enjoy the same right as men. The world is changing in a very fast pace and everything will not remain the same.

In the past decades, women has shown their great ability in both areas of household and workplace. There are many females have done excellently. Firstly, females are the ones who stay at home and in charge of all the house works. They look after children and educate them. This is a gender stereotype since the past. This proves that women have great ability in coping with the house works. However, they can also be the one who go out of the home and be the bread winners for the family. The secretary of America Rice, the Member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee, vice premier of the China's State Council Wu Yi and business woman and founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics Mary Kay Ash and many more. There are thousands of them. Females have shown their great ability even at construction site. One of the best example is the "red scarf" in Singapore. They have shown that women are not weaker than men. Therefore, why cannot they enjoy as many rights as the men? They contribute as much. This will definitely affect the views of people towards the females and hence it is possible for women to enjoy same rights and men.

Furthermore, the living standard of people have risen in the past decades and females are able to receive proper education. Hence, they are able to enter the workforce and contribute to the society. More and more females put their career before their family. They begin to marry and have children later. Many of them have climbed to the higher position in their career. They have proved that they can do things as well as males. Hence, they have risen their status in people's mind which will help them to gain more rights.

In the modern society, the youth are not restricted by the traditions. They have very different mindset from the older generation. The gender stereotype does not root in their mind deeply. Therefore, it is even easier for women to rise their status and they are very likely to enjoy the same rights as men. Hence, it is incorrect to say that women will never enjoy the same rights as men.

Moreover, the females are enjoying more and more rights than before. It can be proved by many evidences. They are allowed to attend schools and receive education which they were not allowed before; they are also able to go out of the houses to work instead of staying home to look after the children; they are allowed to decide many things for themselves such as their married partner and whether to have a child; they are allowed to take part in the president elections in some countries and so on. The truth have proved that women are enjoying more and more rights than before and they are still gaining more rights. Therefore, it is possible for them to enjoy same rights or even more rights than the men in the future.

However, there is a possibility that women may not able to enjoy the same rights as men or may not enjoy them in a short time. The gender stereotype is sill rooted in people's mind deeply and it has been existing in the past thousands of years. It is really not possible for it to disappear totally. Even though the young generation are not restricted by the traditional thinking, they will be certainly affected by it in some extent. They are influenced unconsciously in their daily life by their parents and grandparents at home. Therefore, it is not easy for females to rise their status and enjoy same as men in a short time.

In conclusion, it is possible for women to enjoy the same rights as men but it need a long term process. The gender stereotype that rooted in people's mind cannot be ignored. Therefore, women need to work harder to show people their great abilities in terms to rise their status and enjoy more rights.
