GP essay on family ( term 2 week 3)

3. Discuss the view that children always suffer when both parents work.

The society becomes more competitive nowadays. In terms to survive, people have to work non-stop to earn enough money. Our parents are the main bread-winners in our family. They have to work hard for us to study, eat and spend. They also have to work to feed our elderly at home. They are carrying a heavy burden. Therefore, there are more families with both parents working in the society and this phenomenon will have very great impact on the children.

When both parents are working, their job-related stress affect their children. They always bring their bad mood back home and pass it the offspring. Their numb facial expression and frustrated look affect children's emotions and cause them to feel very sad and tired, too.

However, it is also beneficial to the children when both parents are employed. The working parents occupies an important exemplary role within the family. They often command considerable respect from their children, because they demonstrate the worthy characteristics of industriousness and social compatibility. They are very positive role model. Their children hence will have the awareness of the things that are happening in the society. They will understand the competitiveness in the society and the invisible dangerous that exist. Therefore, when they enter the workforce, they will be very alert and well-prepared. Hence, they will be able to handle all the things easier and better than others do.

Nevertheless, there are many more problems will rise when both of the parents work. The parents may not have enough time to stay with their children. Hence, there will be less communication and interaction between them. Children will therefore feel being neglected and occupied by a strong sense of loneliness. They may go out to look for someone to talk to or to accompany with. Hence, there will be a higher chance for them to meet the "bad" friends who will lead them to a wrong way of life. Singce, the children are not mature enough to make the right decisions for themselves and the both parents are working, no one is able to care about the well-being of the children and nobody is able to stop them from doing the wrong things. Therefore, some of the children may become the juvenile offenders. Other phenomenons such as pre-marital sex, consuming of drugs and gangster fighting will also arise. All these problems are inderectly caused by the phnomenon of the both working parents.

On the other hand, both of the parents working do not always cause problems. Since both parents are working, they do not have enough time to take care of theirs children. Hence, the children have to live independently. They have to cook meals, wash clothes and tidy the rooms by themselves. They have to depend on themselves. Therefore, overtime, they learn to be independent and they will be able to take care of themselves very well.

In conclusion, there are many benefits and defect\s caused by the both working parents, but I think the negative effect outweigh the positive effect experienced by the offspring. If the both parents work, they do not have enough time to care about their children and the offspring may make mistaks before they enter the workforce, so the benefits tthat the working parents on them will not have a chance to take place.

Hi Shen Yang,

this is an interesting essay with many engaging points. I really like how you took a stand in your essay and tried to explain why the negative effects outweigh the positive.

Here are some questions that all reading your blog may answer:

1. How do you know that society is more competitive? What proof or evidence do you have?

2. Can you elaborate more on how stressed parents affect their children?

3. How can one elaborate more on how the negative effects of parents who work outweigh the positive?

1. The competitiveness of the society is shown by increasing unemployment of the university graduates. More and more university graduates are not able to find a job nowaday. In the past, entering a university meant a better future for most of the people, but in the modern society,it is not possible. People have to work very hard to get degrees or diploma in terms to find a job to survive. The life is becoming tougher for us. This show the competitiveness in today's society.

2. When the parents are stressed, their mood will become very bad nad they are easily frustrated. Hence, they do not want to talk to anyone including their children. They will show their stress through facial expression, too. Therefore, theirs children will be scared as they might think that their parents are angry, so they dare not to talk to the parents. Even though they did, their parents may not give them a response they will feel neglected and their mood will also worsen.
